Netherhall Sixth Form
Based in Cambridge, the Netherhall School and Sixth Form College offers its students a wide range of A-level courses. The College has intake numbers of approximately 280 students a year, allowing it to focus on providing individual guidance in small groups, and provides high-quality teaching within excellent study facilities. These facilities were further enhanced by moving into a new building in January 2010. As part of its continued development and desire to upgrade available technology, the College required an interactive whiteboard that could also be used as a standard dry wipe. Furthermore, the chosen whiteboard had to be compatible with Apple Mac computers, which are used widely across the College.
Anders + Kern (A+K) suggested its range of PolyVision eno whiteboards, which features a ceramic steel surface that is magnetic, dry wipe and interactive. The eno 2810 model projects a 4:3 image onto widescreen, allowing space for dry wipe and interactive work at the same time. PolyVision eno supports both Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh operating software, and delivers interactivity through Bluetooth-enabled technology.
Unlike many interactive whiteboards, eno works with any software. Teachers are therefore not locked into canned lesson plans. A teacher is free to interact and use software such as Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows or Numbers (or any similar Open-source software).
The eno interactive whiteboard has been very well received by all users. Alistair Wells, Director of eLearning at the College, commented: “The boards are so simple to use that new teachers could be shown how to use the board by pupils… It’s the best board we have used with Apple Mac computers.”
